Collection: Golden Grass craft

Golden grass craft, also known as Kaincha, is a traditional and sustainable handicraft in Odisha, primarily found in the marshy areas of northeastern Odisha, particularly in Kendrapara, Jagatasinghpur, and Jajpur districts.

The artisans involved in this craft are mostly women who collect the golden grass, split it into strands, and weave it into various products such as baskets, mats, hats, and jewelry. The craft has been a significant source of income for these women, with many earning between Rs 3,000 and Rs 10,000 per month.

The Odisha government has recognized the potential of this craft and has been supporting it through initiatives like self-help groups and training programs. The craft has also gained international recognition, with applications for Geographical Indication (GI) tags and online platforms for selling these unique handicrafts. Sri Asish Kumar Meher from Subarnapur has won State Merit Award in 2011 and Smt. Jharana Sahoo from Jajpur won State Award in 2022 recently.
